Flintstones Buggy Adventure

I think it is safe to say that the Flintstones Buggy Adventure in Punta Cana was a once in a lifetime experience for me— being that I’ve done it ONCE and most likely will not do it again! Keep reading to find out why. 😀

I will start by sharing an overview of the excursion. Conveniently, the company picked us up from our resort. The transportation was included in the price which made things extremely easy for our group. Once we arrive, the company provided us with a quick orientation. We then jumped into our buggies and took off. The trail was about 7 miles long, and we made three stops along the way. We stopped at a “countryside market,” where we were allowed to explore local stores for souvenirs. I included some pictures of the Dominican Walmart, Costco, and Macy’s in the video clip below - make sure you check that out! We parked our buggies at another stop and walked to the entrance of “Fanstasy Cave.” The cave was nothing shy of beautiful. Some people jumped off the cliff into the water at the bottom of the cave, while others - like me - watched from above.

It was fun, but this excursion was a miserable experience for me for two main reasons. You may not be able to tell because I am smiling in all these pictures but I was struggling! First, I was sick from something I ate or drank at our resort the day before. This may be TMI, but this blog is called the TRU life, so here it is… I spent most of this bumpy excursion drinking Pepto Bismol from the bottle and trying to keep down everything that tried to come up as we hit each bump in the road. There were only two restrooms alone this one long excursion, and they were both hot and nasty which made me want to puke even more. So as you can imagine, that was not fun. 🤢

Secondly, this excursion company was RATCHET! 😕 Please excuse the southern Louisiana girl in me with that term, but that is simply another way to say the company was horrible. Our buggy broke down within the first five minutes of the excursion and continued to stop on us throughout the trip. The last time it stopped on us, we were in a residential area that felt very unsafe. While waiting on our guides to come to start the buggy again, a little kid came up to us and asked us for money while five or six adult males watched from a short distance away. 😬 I literally pulled out my phone to start recording just in case something happened to us. During all of this, our tour guides where nowhere to be found. The tour guides were only at the front and end of the group. It felt like we were sitting there for at least ten minutes before anyone came to the rescue. The crime rate in the Dominican Republic has declined in the recent years, but I know it is NOT the safest place to be broken down on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere. But we made it. Praise God! 🙌🏾

Now the one part of the trip that made the experience worthwhile was the beach at the end of the trip. The beach was absolutely beautiful. I was able to meet a superb parrot and a very friendly monkey before taking a swim in the crystal clear blue waters. The beach was by far one of the prettiest beaches I have ever seen. We were able to explore the beach for about 30 minutes before returning to our buggies. I wish would could have stayed longer. If I go back to the Dominican again, I will definitely try to visit this beach again.

So there you have it! The excursion company was not the best, but I rate the overall experience a 7. I strongly recommend mud riding, but choose a different company - a company that’s not ratchet. 😂

Mud ride through the Dominican Republic is a memory I will never forgot. This was my second time traveling out of the country but it will not be my last! Stay tuned in as I share my adventure here in my passport. Check out some pictures below and let me know what has been your favorite vacation excursion in the comments! Hope you enjoyed.
